Sweet 16 Venues in NJ & Staten Island: Ballrooms, Jersey Shore Rooms & Restaurants

A DJ's guide to the rooms families actually book · October 2026

The venue decides more about a Sweet 16 than any other choice you'll make. It sets the guest count, the budget, the end time, and — the part nobody mentions on the tour — how big the dance floor is and where the DJ gets to stand.

So before you pick an entrance song, pick the room. Here's a working list of Sweet 16 venues across our home turf — Middlesex and Monmouth County, the Jersey Shore, Ocean County and Staten Island — grouped by area, with the kind of room each one is and what to ask about from the entertainment side. Capacities are the venues' own published figures or listings — confirm when you tour.

This isn't a ranking and nobody paid to be on it — it's the shortlist we'd hand a parent who asked.

Middlesex County Sweet 16 venues

The Grand Marquis — Old Bridge

The Route 9 landmark most Old Bridge, Sayreville and East Brunswick families picture when they say "ballroom." Two very different spaces: the Dome Room, with its glass-dome ceiling, floor-to-ceiling windows and a circular dance floor in the center that puts the guest of honor in the round, and the Marquis Room, a Grand European-style ballroom with a marble dance floor that the venue lists for up to 800 guests. Sweet 16s and quinceañeras are on their event list by name. The Dome Room's circular floor is a gift for a grand entrance; the Marquis Room is big enough that sound and lighting need real planning. More on the area on our Middlesex County DJ page.

Monmouth County & Jersey Shore ballrooms

Addison Park — Aberdeen

A family-run mansion-style venue on Route 35 in the Matawan–Aberdeen corridor (some listings file it under Keyport, its mailing town). Cocktail lounges, ballrooms and an outdoor ceremony area, with parties listed from 75 up to 800 guests, and Sweet 16s named on their own site. Listings note there's no in-house lighting or sound package — good news for a Sweet 16, since your DJ brings the production and isn't working around a house system.

Buttonwood Manor — Matawan

A Route 34 catering house hosting events for more than 75 years and still running bridal shows. The venue lists Sweet Sixteens and quinceañeras under its social events alongside showers and milestone birthdays. Wedding directories put it in the mid-size range — a few hundred guests — which makes it a comfortable fit for the 120–200 guest Sweet 16 that's typical in this part of Monmouth.

South Gate Manor — Freehold Township

A South Street venue that hosts one event at a time, with a grand ballroom plus outdoor space, and one of the few Monmouth rooms that shows up on Sweet 16 roundups by name. One event at a time matters more than it sounds: no second party down the hall bleeding bass through the wall during your candle ceremony. Ask directly about social-event packages; their public listings lean toward weddings.

Jumping Brook Country Club — Neptune

The Jersey Shore ballroom option a few minutes from Asbury Park and Belmar. Three rooms: the Regency Ballroom (high ceilings, chandeliers, up to 350), the more modern Venetian Ballroom (up to 130), and the smaller Grandview with views over the course. For a Sweet 16 with a tighter guest list the Venetian is the smart pick — a 120-person party in a 350-person room never feels full. See our Monmouth County DJ page for the rest of the Shore.

Ocean County: Toms River & Lakewood

Versailles Ballroom at the Ramada — Toms River

The Route 9 hotel ballroom that families from Toms River, Brick and Jackson default to. Listings describe a roughly 4,400-square-foot room with high ceilings, crystal chandeliers and a large dance floor, with an adjacent Veranda for cocktail hour — about 300 guests with the dance floor in play, 340 for a banquet without it. Its listings are wedding-first, so ask about Sweet 16 packages when you call. A hotel ballroom also means out-of-town family can stay upstairs.

Atlantis Ballroom at the Days Hotel by Wyndham — Toms River

The other Toms River hotel option, on Route 37 East, with roughly 5,400 square feet of event space split between the renovated Atlantis Ballroom (listed up to 320) and the smaller Coral Ballroom. It's one of the few Ocean County rooms whose event listings name Sweet 16 parties outright. Their listings note music must end by 1:00 am — a non-issue for a four-hour party, but ask every venue the same question.

A Lakewood note: Woodlake Country Club has closed, so cross it off if a relative suggests it; Lakewood families mostly head to Toms River or Freehold for ballroom space now.

Staten Island Sweet 16 venues

Two-hundred-guest Sweet 16s are normal on Staten Island, and the Island has the rooms to match — a short ride over the Outerbridge from our base in Old Bridge.

Grand Oaks Country Club — Huguenot

The South Shore's country-club ballroom, on Huguenot Avenue at the South Shore Golf Course. Listings put it around 450 for a seated dinner and 550 cocktail-style, with an after-party room — and the venue markets milestone celebrations and private events alongside weddings. A big, polished room — plan the floor and lighting so a 150-guest party reads as full.

Nicotra's Ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn — West Shore

On South Avenue, set inside protected woodland by the Teleport. Nicotra's publishes a dedicated Sweet 16 menu, which tells you how often they host them. The ballroom divides into sections, so it scales from an intimate party up to several hundred; the Trevi Garden (listed up to 175) and the Tea House Garden (around 75) are the smaller rooms. Hotel on site and valet parking.

The Vanderbilt at South Beach — South Beach

Staten Island's oceanfront ballroom, on Father Capodanno Boulevard along the boardwalk. A chandelier-lit Grand Ballroom for big receptions and the smaller Palm Room, with the beach as the backdrop for photos. It appears on NYC Sweet 16 venue roundups, and the venue lists birthday parties and private events alongside weddings. For the glamorous-ballroom version of a Sweet 16, this is the Island's room.

LiGreci's Staaten — West Brighton

The Forest Avenue institution, family-owned for 50 years, with a Sweet Sixteen buffet menu published right on their site. Six rooms across three levels — the Imperial Room on the main floor is the big one — plus a large parking lot, which on Forest Avenue is not a small thing. The old-school North Shore catering hall, built for exactly this kind of party.

Angelina's Ristorante — Tottenville

For a smaller Sweet 16 — 70 to 140 guests — a waterfront restaurant beats a half-empty ballroom. On Ellis Street in Tottenville, Angelina's has a second-floor room with full-height windows on the water (listed around 90 seated), a third floor (around 70), and a bocce tent for about 140. We've written about this room before in our Angelina's baby shower recap; for any restaurant room, confirm where the booth goes and how much floor is cleared for dancing. See the rest of the borough on our Staten Island DJ page, and our Sweet 16 DJ in Staten Island page for how we run them.

How to choose a Sweet 16 venue

Every room above can host a great party. These are the questions that sort out which one is right for yours:

  • Guest count first. Teenagers dance in packs, so a room one size smaller than you'd pick for a wedding of the same count usually feels better.
  • Ask for the dance floor's dimensions — not the room capacity. Roughly three to four square feet per guest dancing at once, positioned near the DJ.
  • In-house DJ requirements. Some venues bundle a preferred entertainment company or charge an outside-vendor fee. Ask: can we bring our own DJ, is there a fee, and what insurance certificate do you need? (We're fully insured and send certificates to venues on request.)
  • Load-in and end time. When can vendors get in, and what's the hard out? Ninety minutes before doors is comfortable; 45 is a sound check during arrivals.
  • Sound and effects rules. Hotel ballrooms may have decibel limits or quiet hours; some rooms won't allow cold sparks or CO₂, or require notice. Ask before you fall in love with the entrance.
  • Deposit timing. The venue deposit locks the date — popular Saturdays go nine to twelve months out. Book your DJ right after; Fridays and Sundays are often more available.

Once the room is booked, the next question is how the night runs inside it. Our Sweet 16 party timeline walks the standard four-hour night hour by hour — entrance, candle ceremony, cake, open dancing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best Sweet 16 venues in New Jersey?

Grand ballrooms like The Grand Marquis, Addison Park and South Gate Manor for big formal parties; Jumping Brook and the Toms River hotel ballrooms for 100–300 guests; restaurant rooms for smaller, relaxed Sweet 16s.

Where can you have a Sweet 16 on Staten Island?

Grand Oaks Country Club in Huguenot, Nicotra's Ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn, The Vanderbilt at South Beach, LiGreci's Staaten in West Brighton, and restaurant rooms like Angelina's in Tottenville for smaller guest lists.

Do Sweet 16 venues require you to use their in-house DJ?

Most let you bring your own; some bundle a preferred company or charge an outside-vendor fee. Ask before you sign — we're fully insured and provide certificates on request.

How big a dance floor does a Sweet 16 need?

About three to four square feet per guest dancing at once — roughly 400–500 square feet for a 150-guest party. Ask for the floor's actual dimensions, not the room's capacity.

How far in advance should you book the venue and DJ?

Nine to twelve months for a popular Saturday at the big ballrooms. Book the DJ right after the venue deposit; if your date is closer, ask about Friday or Sunday slots.
